NACEA (North-America Chinese Entrepreneur Association) is pleased to announce the 7th Entrepreneur Series: Business Plan Presentation & Pitching, a public event to be held On January 10, at New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT, Newark , NJ ). The contest is a joint effort with our long-time supporters SAPA (Sino-American Pharmaceutical Association), NJCCPS (New Jersey Chinese Computer Professional Society), and NJIT Chinese Student & Scholars Society.  

Who to Attend:

  • Professionals who wish to start their own business or have great ideas that he/she thinks will be a success.

Panelists

Jonas Wang, Ph.D., Partner, Sycamore Venture

Dr. Jonas Wang is a Partner of Sycamore Ventures. He focuses on life sciences and biotechnology investments. Prior to joining Sycamore, Dr. Jonas was Vice President of Research and Technology at Johnson & Johnson Consumer Products and a Corporate Director of J&J Drug Delivery Technology Resource Center (TRC), responsible for new product technology, patent strategy, competitive intelligence, and new measurement methodology for skin and hair care franchise. Prior to that, he was an Associate Director of Basic Pharmaceutics, the Pharmaceutical Research Institute of Bristol-Myers Squibb Co. Dr. Jonas has over 30 years of experience in pharmaceutical R&D management and business development. He was also a member of J&J Consumer Product Worldwide Licensing & Acquisition Committee and was the key driver for several major acquisitions. He has published extensively in drug delivery technology and received several awards in his field, including the Johnson Medal, the highest technical achievement award at J&J, for one of his inventions: anti-wrinkle cream; the Distinguished Alumni awards from the National Defense Medical Center and University of Iowa . During his career with J&J, Dr. Jonas developed more than 10 core technologies, and filed more than 30 business-related patents. He is currently a member of the Boards of Directors of StemCyte, Inc., Xylos Corporation, Z-Kat Asia Inc., and AGT-YNBY, and is also a Board observer of Transave Inc. Dr. Jonas received his Ph.D. in Physical Pharmacy from University of Iowa , USA and Pharmacy degree from National Defense Medical Center in Taiwan , Republic of China. Sycamore is a global investment firm with offices in the US , China , India , and Singapore . Collectively, their investment professionals have well over 100 years of investment experience, have invested in more than 100 companies, served on the boards of directors of over 75 companies, taken more than 20 companies public and sold or merged over 40 companies. Funds under their management invest in the US , the greater China region, and India .

John Ason, Angel Investor

John Ason is an angel investor specializing in early stage pre-revenue companies. He has made sixteen investments in the areas of e-commerce, 3D technology, internet publishing, RFID, mobile search, winery, advertising and entertainment/media. John was at AT&T Bell Labs for over 25 years, first involved in software and technology development, then in marketing and business management of large software projects. He is a graduate of the Illinois Institute of Technology. He is a guest lecturer at the Rothman Institute of Entrepreneurial Studies at Fairleigh Dickinson and at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania .

William Uchimoto

William Uchimoto has extensive experience with the investment community in the United States and China.  He has worked in both the public  and private sectors in the securities companies.  Beginning his career in the SEC, Mr. Uchimoto moved on to private sector jobs, including the Philadelphia Stock Exchange and gained extensive knowledge in bringing a company into public and getting listed.  His current position is chair of the China Practice Group for the firm of Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney.  In this capacity, he has advised many Chinese companies on how to become public companies in the US stock market.  His extensive networks in the Chinese governmenl and business communities have established Mr. Uchimoto as a key player in developing investment opportunities in both the US and China.  For the past ten years he has played an important role in bringing Chinese companies to American investment. Mr. Uchimoto graduated with J.D degree from University of California Hastings College of Law.

Daniel Lou Director, Agency Department, New York Life Insurance Company

Daniel graduated from Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism with a Master of Science degree and has practiced journalism both in China and the United States before he joined New York Life, the largest mutual life insurance company in the United States .

Daniel has been active in the financial and business community in the Greater New Year area. He was the founder of Chinese Investors Association in February 2001 and had been its president for over seven years before he stepped down in late 2007. In that capacity, he has advised businesses and entrepreneurs both in the United States and China in marketing, financing and strategic planning, among others.
