Introduction

The North American Chinese Entrepreneur Association (NACEA) and the New Jersey
Small Business Development Center (NJSBDC) is co-hosting a symposium that features the above topics and a diversified networking opportunity. Speakers from New Jersey
public sectors and incubation centers will come and share information on the resources and policies for small businesses and discuss
their analysis about exporting opportunities and new support for entrepreneurs. A delegation from Beijing representing a nation-wide industry association - the China Association for the Technology Advancement of Private Enterprises
is invited to join us and provide an indepth analysis about China market needs and introduce their member companies who are seeking international colaborations.
Meanwhile, come and mingle with your fellow business owners, entrepreneurs, and seasoned professionals across different ethnic groups,

Speakers/Panelists Bios:
Ruichun Duan, President of China Association for Technology Advancement of Private Enterprises
Mr. Duan Ruichun received his BS in mechanical engineering in Shanghai Jiao Tong University in 1967, MS
in China's Academy of Science in 1981 and a MA in Economic Law in Beijing University, 1983. He was a visiting Professor
at EWC, Duke University, Heidelberg University in mid 90s and later led a Sino-American IPR Cooperation Program in Berkerley University.
Prior to his current position as the President of CATAPE, Mr. Duan had been working as a government official in various fields for many years.
From early 80s to late 90s, he served as the Director-General of Dept of Science Policy, Executive Secretary-General of the Ministry of Science and Technology.
Later, Mr. Duan was appointed to the Office of Intellectual Property Conference under the State Council of China, and was in charge of the legislation
and enforcement of IP laws and regulations in the IP negotiations regarding science and technology cooperations between China and the US, EU, Russia and other countries.
He has been chief negotiator in many international negotiations on IP during this period including the one regarding China's entry into WTO.
From 2000 to 2006, Mr. Duan was appointed by the State Council as the Chairman of the Supervisory Board of State-Owned Enterprises
under the State-Owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission (SASAC). In this position, he has gained rich experiences
working with both state and private enterprises in China.
From 2003 to 2005, Mr. Duan served as the Chief of the Research Group on Science Policy and Legislations. He participated in the work
of preparing the National long- and medium-term planning about Science and Technology Development(2006-2020). He was also involved in the FS study of
National Strategy of IP and served as Director of Evaluation Group.
Mr. Duan is a high-level IP expert with solid theroy and abundant experiences. Mr. Duan became the President of CATAPE in 2009, and since then,
he also become guest professors of several renowned universities such as Beijing University and Tsinghua University. His publications include "International Cooperation and Intellectual Property",
"Promoting and Strengthening the Development of Private Technology Enterprises in China"; "On Technical Contract", "On Technology Innovation", "Probe on Science and Technology Policy from Deferent Aspects", etc.
Toni Corsini, the Senior Trade Finance Specialist & New York/New Jersey Regional Manager, SBA Office of International Trade
Toni is the Senior Trade Finance Specialist & New York/New Jersey Regional Manager representing the SBA Office of International Trade at the US Export Assistance Center in downtown New York City.
Before becoming a Federal Government employee, Toni was the Vice President and Manager of Trade Services Marketing & Communication for North America at a large global financial institution.
Toni is well known in the business & banking communities, having spent many years in trade finance as a VP for commercial banks in both New York and New Jersey and as an export manager in the manufacturing sector.
She has conducted international trade finance classes and courses for many years for high-profile corporations and educational institutions in New York and New Jersey.
She holds a BS in Business Management and an AA in Banking.
Dan Johnson, Business Development Officer for the New Jersey Economic Development Authority (EDA)
Dan Johnson is a Business Development Officer for the New Jersey Economic Development Authority (EDA). In his position, he manages strategies and processes to support regional business development, urban development, real estate site solutions, and assists in facilitating the commercial lending process in New Jersey through various financing options.
Dan graduated from the University of Rhode Island with a Bachelor's degree in Kinesiology. Prior to joining the EDA, he began his financing career at Ocean Capital FSB in Rhode Island as a Loan Officer. A few years later, he was promoted to the Small Business Administration and presented with NJ, NY and PA as his regional territory.
After years of SBA experience in the state of NJ, Dan joined the EDA Business Development team and has successfully assisted in providing financial solutions for several NJ businesses.
Mr. Yanmin Ma, Vice President of China Association for Promoting Private Technology Enterprises.
Mr. Yanmin Ma earned his bachelors degree in advanced engineering. After graduating, he worked in the Technical Institute of Physics and Chemistry, CAS, General Office of State Scientific and Technological Commission, China Rural Technology Development Center, MOST, China Technology Market Management & Promotion Center and Torch High-Tech Industries Development Center. He is executive vice director of the State Nonpublic Technological and Scientific Promotion Commission. He is engaged in policy study and the promotion of technological management, technology market and high-tech industrialization for the long term. He has worked as the principal in the technology poverty relief program of MOST and was a major planner of national technology transfer promotion activity. He promotes the research and building of nonpublic technological parks, set up a LED benchmarking system promotion commission, and he promotes the building of service platforms for nonpublic technological strategic study, the commercialization of research findings, technological investment and financing, business development of technological products, talents service and international scientific and technological exchanges and cooperation after he holds his office in State Nonpublic Technological and Scientific Promotion Commission.
Huiqun Wang, Chairman of Ecota Environmental Technology Co, Guangdong Province
Wang Hui qun, was graduated from Hong Kong Baptist University with a Master's Degree in Business Administration (MBA). He is currently the chairman of Ecota Environmental Technology Co., Ltd, and Mr. Wang was one of the first entrepreneurs to enter the environmental industry in low carbon emission. He gained national, provincial, and city level awards and titles including: Shantou Top Ten Innovation Character; Guangdong Province Patent Inventor gold award; The working model of National Business System; The contribution award in China’s individually-run enterprises technological developing, and others.
The completely biodegradable products of Ecota Environmental Technology Co., Ltd. passed the ASTMD6400 & EN13432 standards, with data showing that they have an advantage of 50 and 3.2 times above the standards. The 100% biodegradable Starch-based products have also passed the most authoritative laboratory AIB VINCOTTE in European industry to get the UN OK bio-based authority. Ecota is presently the first and the only enterprise in tableware finished goods which has gained the 3 stars-level authentication and passed the OK compost.
Michael Searson, Ph.D., Executive Director of the School for Global Education & Innovation at Kean University
Michael Searson, Ph.D., is executive director of the School for Global Education & Innovation at Kean University and president of the Society for Information Technology and Teacher Education (SITE). Recently, he was honored with the "Outstanding Contribution to Excellence in Teacher Preparation" award by the New Jersey Secretary for Higher Education.
Internationally, Searson works with numerous organizations that examine the role of innovative learning technologies, in formal and informal educational settings. Over the past two years, he has addressed these topics in China, Singapore and Turkey, and is currently an invited keynote speaker at the US-Muslim Countries Summit in Morocco. This fall, he serves as an "ambassador" to the African Summit on Learning Technologies in Senegal.
As a member of the leadership team for the EDUsummIT 2011, held at UNESCO Headquarters, Paris, he is working with a group of international leaders on an action plan that will inform an international audience on steps to be taken to better integrate learning technologies into education.
As SITE president, Searson was also awarded a grant by Facebook as principal investigator leading a team that will develop an open source curriculum on digital citizenship.
Recent appointments include the
- Microsoft Advisory Board Teacher Education Initiative for the Partners in Learning Program; and the
- US National Parks Service Advisory Board for Education
Additionally, Searson
- serves as a leader of the National Technology Leadership Coalition, which holds the annual National Technology Leadership Summit in Washington, DC
- is a member an Apple Distinguished Educator (including service on that ADE Advisory Committee (2008-2010)
- participated in the Google Teacher Academy
Over the years, Dr. Searson has authored or co-authored about $9 million of grants, most of which focus on the relationship between educational technology and learning.
Among his current interests is the relationship among mobile devices, social media, informal learning and societal dynamics.
Judith Sheft, MBA, Associate VP, Technology Development, New Jersey Institute of Technology
Judith A. Sheft is the Associate Vice President Technology Development at the New Jersey Institute of Technology. She is responsible for managing the
university's Office of Technology Development and creates programs and policies focusing on patent creation, intellectual property valuation, strategic use and protection of IP assets.
She is also involved with economic development in the Newark Innovation Zone having responsibilities for management of the university’s high technology business accelerator/incubator,
the Enterprise Development Center, and the Procurement Technical Assistance Center. She is on the Board of Advisors to the NJIT School of Management and the NJIT Albert Dorman Honor’s
College Interdisiplinary Design Studio program. Since 2007 she has been a member of the NJ – Israel Commission.
Prior to joining NJIT, she had been a founding member of Licenz Group, an IP consulting firm that focuses on assisting companies to maximize the value of their IP
portfolio. Before that she had worked as the Intellectual Property and Compliance Vice President for Agere Systems, the semiconductor subsidiary of Lucent Technologies. In that capacity
she had profit and loss responsibility for Agere’s patent and technology licensing business. She was involved in the allocation of intellectual property assets during the AT&T
trivestiture and is experienced in assessing patent portfolios. Ms. Sheft has provided IP guidance to many of the high technology M&A and divestiture activities at AT&T and Lucent.
Ms. Sheft has extensive business development experience outside the U.S. She played a lead role in negotiating a long-term alliance between Lucent/Agere and NEC in the field of semiconductor
manufacturing technology. The alliance has lasted over a decade and is a prime example of collaboration between competitors.
Ms. Sheft has a BS and MS in Mathematics from the University of Illinois and an MBA in International Business from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. She is a frequent
speaker on the topic of intellectual property and strategic alliances and is an active member of the Licensing Executive’ Society.
Yansheng Bian, Vice President of CATAPE
Mr. Bian is the chief physician with university degree. He has served as the deputy director and an investigator in the Service Bureau of Chin'a Ministry of Science and Technology, in charge of
administrative affairs and logistic services. Since 2010 he has been appointed Standing VP Of the China Association for the Technology Advancement of Private Enterprises(CATAPE)and the chairman
of the Committee of Medicines & Health Experts.
In order to promote the private technology enterprises and private entrepreneurs, the Association has done tremendous amount of work, especially in promoting the construction
of privately-operated Sci-tech parks. and in improving the researches on private enterprise strategies.
In the last two years, he has lead a survey in private technology parks in different provinces in China and thus improved his understanding of the status-quo of these parks and
also the problems and difficulties. In the meantime, he made some further investigation into the health status of the entrepreneurs, put forward a proposal to build an
Entrepreneurial Health Club in the country which may help create a stronger awareness among business owners about their health. The intention is also to build the club into a platform
for exchanges and networking.
Nathaniel Sims
Assistant Director, New Jersey Small Business Development Centers at Kean University
Nathaniel Sims has been Assistant Director of the Kean SBDC for over 11 years. His educational background includes an Accounting degree from Pace University and graduate work at the Stonier Graduate School of Banking and the American Institute of Banking.
He has extensive high level experience in banking and finance at major financial institutions. In addition, he has had a private financial consulting business for many years and is the recipient of numerous awards from governmental, financial and community organizations.
Huajun Zhang, Chief Director of Shanou KICA Machinery Factory Co.
Ms Zhang Huajun is the Chief Director of Shanou KICA Machinery Factory Co., Ltd and is in charge of establishing and carrying out the overall company strategy, fulfilling the goals of management, leading the company in the correct direction, and making sure overall company goals can be achieved. Kica company was established in 1989, and specializes in Eco-friendly tableware equipment units, thermoforming packing machinery units, plastic machinery and relative moulds. Kica has set “Keep Innovative and improving” as its most important principle. After expending great efforts for more than 10 years, Kica has made many great achievements, and succeeded in expanding and scaling its production.
Hongbin Liu, Assistant Director, Productivity Promotion Center of Guangdong Province
Ms. Liu is a senior economist engaged in the policy research on the private science and technology enterprises, the innovative growth of enterprises and the private technology parks.
She has presided over or participated in more than 20 provincial-level research projects on the science and technology policy and the development of the technology SMEs. Ms. Liu is well-informed of
the laws and regulations in respect of China's economic, science and technology development. In particular, she has gained abundant work experience about business management consulting services,
operation of the innovation fund for the technology-based SMEs, research project planning, etc.
Her working experience also includes the assistant investigator in the Management Office of the Private Science and Technology Institute, Guangdong Science and Technology Dept,
the assistant director of the Productivity Promotion Center of Guangdong Province, the deputy director of Technology-based SME Innovation Fund Management Center of Guangdong Province,
the secretary general (legal representative) of the Third and Fourth Council of Private Science and Technology Enterprise Association of Guangdong Province and
a member of China Association for Technology Advancement of Private Enterprises (CATAPE).
